Building a Faithful Life — 5 Powerful Small Steps
The farmstead dream did not start with land.

It started with obedience — small, quiet, unimpressive obedience that did not look like much of anything from the outside. A decision to start a sourdough starter. A decision to bake one more loaf than needed and give it away. A decision to write one honest sentence on a page nobody was reading yet.

Building a faithful life rarely starts with the big visible thing. It starts there, in the small obedient step nobody else sees. This is the final post in our Rooted and Growing summer series, and I cannot think of a better place to land than this. 🌿

1. The Dream Didn’t Start With Land

If you are waiting for the big sign — the land, the income, the perfect circumstances — before you start building the life God put on your heart, I want to gently challenge that timeline.

Building a faithful life almost never starts with the thing you are waiting on. It starts with what you do while you are waiting.

2. What Building a Faithful Life Actually Looks Like

It rarely looks impressive in the moment.

It looks like showing up to an ordinary Tuesday with an ordinary task and doing it as an act of worship instead of an obligation. It looks like starting something small and staying faithful to it long after the excitement of starting has worn off.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things.”
Matthew 25:21 KJV

A few things first. Always a few things first. Building a faithful life is God’s training ground for the bigger things He has planned.

3. Five Small Steps God Uses Most

Step 1 — Start Before You Feel Ready

Readiness is a feeling. Obedience is a decision. You will likely never feel fully ready, and that has never disqualified anyone God has ever used.

Step 2 — Stay When It Gets Boring

The exciting part of any dream lasts about two weeks. Building a faithful life happens in the months and years after the excitement fades and the work becomes simply work.

Step 3 — Tell the Truth About Where You Are

Honesty about your actual season — not the one you wish you were in — keeps you from building on a foundation of pretending.

Step 4 — Let Small Faithfulness Be Enough for Today

You do not have to see the whole plan to take the next faithful step. You only have to take the next one.

Step 5 — Keep Returning to the Word

Every faithful life that has ever been built well has been anchored in scripture, not just inspiration. Inspiration fades. The Word does not.

4. When the Dream Still Feels Far Away

Maybe the land has not come yet. Maybe the income has not caught up. Maybe the dream still feels mostly like a feeling and not yet like a reality you can hold in your hands.

That does not mean you are off track. It means you are still in the building a faithful life season — and that season matters every bit as much as the arrival does.

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”
Ephesians 3:20 KJV

He is not waiting for you to arrive before He starts working. He is working right now, in the small obedient thing you did this morning that nobody else even noticed.

5. Your Table Challenge This Week

This week your Table Challenge is to name one small obedient step you have been putting off — and take it before Sunday.

Not the big leap. Just the next faithful thing. Write it down. Pray over it. Then do it.

“Give us this day our daily bread.”
Matthew 6:11 KJV

He is faithful with the daily portion. Trust Him with the next step. 🙏
